Inspection Reports

At Port Regis we understand that choosing a prep school can be complicated and unlike senior schools there is little clear simple guidance to help you. However the government body Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Servicesand Skills) and the government approved body ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) devote significant resources to examining the majority of schools in the country. Their reports offer you as a parent valuable insight into how a school actually runs and what standards of education are provided for children at the school being inspected and how this compares on a national level.

These reports are often long going into great detail about each school. However, when you understand how to read these reports comparison becomes a much faster process. Below we outline how each of the different agencies rates schools and the main criteria according to which all schools are assessed. We also show you how Port Regis is judged against these criteria.

"ISI reports do not provide a single overarching judgement for the school but instead give a clear judgement on each aspect of the school’s work at the beginning of each section. These headline statements must include one of the ISI descriptors:

- Excellent

- Good

- Sound

- Unsatisfactory"

The most recent integrated inspection of Port Regis took place in June 2014 and the school was awarded the following judgements:

ISI Criterion Port Regis Rating
1 The quality of the pupils' achievements and learning EXCELLENT
2 The contribution of curricular and extra-curricular provision EXCELLENT
3 The contribution of teaching EXCELLENT
4 The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils EXCELLENT
5 The contribution of arrangements for pastoral care EXCELLENT
6 The contribution of arrangements for welfare, health and safety EXCELLENT
7 The quality of boarding EXCELLENT
8 The quality of governance EXCELLENT
9 The quality of leadership and management, including links with parents, carers and guardians EXCELLENT

We are very proud to have achieved the top rating in every single category for the second inspection in a row.

Ofsted use four levels to assess different aspects of the school:

Outstanding - this aspect of the provision is of exceptionally high quality

Good - this aspect of the provision is strong

Satisfactory - this aspect of the provision is sound

Inadequate- this aspect of the provision is not good enough

For independent schools like Port Regis, Ofsted issues a Social Care Inspection Report. This judges a school using the above levels in seven specific sections. A summary is listed below. (Please note that more academic assessments are left to the ISI.)
