We all live geographically. Planet Earth is our home. It is awesome, diverse, inspiring and ever-changing. At Port Regis we are passionate about discovering how our world works and what impact humans are having on its fragile existence. The staff in the geography department are quite an intrepid bunch!
Travels across the globe have taken them to most of the Earth’s continents and given them valuable hands-on experience working and studying among earth’s diverse cultures, oceans and landscapes.
Teachers in the department are committed to improving the knowledge and understanding of the pupils as well as developing the thinking skills which are so vital in geography, while pupils are encouraged to draw on their own personal experiences of the world to bring more insight, interest and relevance to their study. In lessons we explore values and controversial issues, challenge stereotypes and encourage pupils to think for themselves. We aim to allow pupils the freedom to develop their own informed ideas and to then have the confidence and ability to defend these opinions.
The department also embraces modern learning technology. Pupils are taught how to use the internet for research while regular use of the digital whiteboards in the geography classrooms allow lessons to be as interactive as possible and provide plenty of opportunity for learning visually via interactive maps, graphs and models.
The Head of Geography is Henry Marshall. Henry is also Deputy Head.
