We believe that what happens at mealtimes impacts powerfully on the rest of a child’s day. Our Head Chef, James Franco, uses locally sourced, top quality fresh ingredients, all of which are prepared and served by our friendly and welcoming kitchen staff.
Our spacious Dining Hall is a focal point of the school, the layout of which allows for children to sit with their friends and enjoy mealtimes. There is a member of staff on each table and supervision of every meal time ensures table manners are monitored and that all children eat a nutritionally balanced meal. Children also receive a variety of home made snacks in morning and afternoon breaks to keep their energy levels topped up, especially on match days. Wednesday and Saturday match teas are legendary and for visiting parents we claim to serve the thickest slices of cake in the South West!
As a school we are committed to using local suppliers and food growers wherever possible. Fresh meat is purchased daily from Prime Cuts, our local butcher in Shaftesbury. Dairy goods are procured from Longman’s dairy with all of our milk coming from Dorset cows. Our fresh fish is sourced from Premier Fish in Salisbury.
All our food is prepared on the premises in a hygienic and safe way and our Catering team are proud of their 5 star hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency.
“School food is among the very best we’ve tasted. Head chef (whose family runs a local restaurant) and his five-strong team cook up to 1,000 meals a day – breakfast, lunch and supper, using fresh locally sourced ingredients as much as possible. We happily tucked into a lunch of fillet of sea bass (freshly caught off the coast of Brixham) topped with caper and lemon sauce, spinach and roasted new potatoes. Salads and vegetarian options always on offer – avocado and chargrilled peppers, quorn wraps and lentil soup when we visited.”
