A termly topic is the seed from which all curriculum learning shoots. This enables themes to be explored in depth, as well as child led areas of interest to be pursued.
Children are taught to form letters using a cursive script enabling them to write in joined hand from the outset. Handwriting practice linked to phonics and reading to an adult are daily activities. A variety of writing opportunities springboard from books, music, art or objects that are linked to themes of focus.
During our daily numeracy lessons, mathematical concepts are systematically introduced and reinforced using the concrete, pictorial to abstract approach.
Three games sessions are built into our weekly timetable incorporating swimming, ball skills and gymnastics. There are also timetabled ICT lessons, music, outdoor learning and forest school sessions.
