Pupils across school enjoyed a delicious themed lunch today, inspired by Francophone Africa. Lamb stew, grilled pineapple and couscous were all on the menu to celebrate Yennayer (the Amazigh New Year) and Mrs Handaji made leaflets filled with interesting facts about Francophone countries and Yennayer (for example, did you know that Africa makes up more than 70% of the world’s total French speaking population?). The day holds even greater significance this year as it’s the first time in over 100 years that Yennayar has been recognised in Morocco as a national holiday – a welcome step forward for the Amazigh people, who are North Africa’s original inhabitants. Un grand merci à notre équipe de restauration pour ce merveilleux déjeuner et à M. et Mme Handaji pour avoir partagé leur culture avec nous; c’était vraiment fantastique!
