It’s not every day you see a helicopter landing at school – but that’s exactly what happened on Saturday as part of our PR Plus programme of enrichment. Our biggest thanks to PR parent and Chief Test Pilot for Leonardo Helicopters UK, Mark Burnand, who delivered an inspiring talk for A Form pupils called ‘How to become a Test Pilot’. Mark got the children thinking about how helicopters are used, where they are employed around the world, and why and how we test them. He talked about his job, which involves flying numerous military and civil helicopters around the world (including UK MOD Merlin, Wildcat and Apache helicopters) and about his 38-year flying career which started in the Army Air Corps and included time spent with the Royal Navy. Pupils then got to ask questions and explore the Leonardo AW109E helicopter, which they loved! Thank you, Mark, for a really super morning.
